- The Lycian Coast
The Lycian Coast runs from Marmaris in the west to Antalya in the east, which covers some of the most remarkable coastline in the Mediterranean.
This coastline of Turkey is simply spectacular, home to not only rugged landscapes but historical rock tombs embedded in the cliff sides. It’s also known as the Turquoise Coast; due to its blue-green waters which are ideal for snorkelling and lunch time swim stops.
We think if you’re a crew who likes to mix it up a bit, with coastal cruising and the twelve islands in the bay of Fethiye, a long warm season and of course great sailing; then the Lycian Coast could really float your boat.
Marmaris (2 hours from Dalaman airport) – there are two different bases in Marmaris, one within easy walking distance of the promenade and the other in a secluded spot outside of the town.
Gocek (40 minutes from Dalaman airport) – Gocek is a lovely little Turkish village where the yachts are moored. There are two medium sized supermarkets in the village, bars, and restaurants to help you on your way.
Fethiye (1 hour 10 minutes from Dalman airport) – the base at Fethiye is a small marina, with an excellent restaurant/bar and great facilities. All dog lovers keep an eye out for Brandy the resident golden cocker spaniel.
During the summer the prevailing wind blows from the North West, averaging between a force 2 – 4. This makes it ideal for those looking to take it easy and potter round the islands.
The most southerly destination that we offer, Turkey has a longer season than most areas and for crews who want to venture out later in the season we recommend this as a destination.
Turkey is the only destination where there is an extra charge for a ‘Transit Log’ in addition to the usual cost of end cleaning, fuel, security deposit plus optional extras; you can expect to pay €100 to €120. The transit log is the yacht papers, which need to be completed for every new charter.
Flying into Dalaman there are a lot of options; you can fly with EasyJet from London Stanstead, Bristol and Manchester. Fly with Monarch from London Stanstead, Birmingham, London Gatwick and London Luton. Further north Jet2 fly from Leeds Bradford and East Midlands.
